Heartbeat of the Mouse: a Young Radio Pulsar Associated with the Axisymmetric
نویسنده
چکیده
We report the discovery of PSR J1747−2958, a radio pulsar with period P = 98 ms and dispersion measure DM = 101 cm−3 pc, in a deep observation with the Parkes telescope of the axially-symmetric “Mouse” radio nebula (G359.23−0.82). Timing measurements of the newly discovered pulsar reveal a characteristic age P/2Ṗ = 25 kyr and spin-down luminosity Ė = 2.5×1036 erg s−1. The pulsar (timing) position is consistent with that of the Mouse’s “head”. The distance derived from the DM, ≈ 2 kpc, is consistent with the Mouse’s distance limit from HI absorption, < 5.5 kpc. Also, the X-ray energetics of the Mouse are compatible with being powered by the pulsar. Therefore we argue that PSR J1747−2958, moving at supersonic speed through the local interstellar medium, powers this unusual non-thermal nebula. The pulsar is a weak radio source, with period-averaged flux density at 1374 MHz of 0.25 mJy and luminosity ∼ 1 mJy kpc2. The recent detection of a young pulsar powering " the Mouse " , G359.23–0.82, as well as detailed imaging of surrounding nebular X-ray emission, have motivated us to investigate the structural details and polarization characteristics of the radio emission from this axisymmetric source with a supersonic bow shock. Using polarization data at 3.6 and 6cm, we find that the magnetic field wraps arou...

We report on Australia Telescope Compact Array observations in the direction of the young high magneticfield pulsar J1119–6127. In the resulting images we identify a non-thermal radio shell of diameter 15, which we classify as a previously uncatalogued young supernova remnant, G292.2–0.5. This supernova remnant is positionally coincident with PSR J1119–6127, and we conclude that the two objects...

We report on Australia Telescope Compact Array observations in the direction of the young high-magnetic-field radio pulsar PSR J1119−6127. In the resulting images we identify a non-thermal radio shell of diameter 15 ′ , which we classify as a previously uncataloged young supernova remnant (SNR), G292.2−0.5. متن کاملRadio Polarization of the Young High-Magnetic-Field Pulsar PSR J1119-6127
We have investigated the radio polarization properties of PSR J1119 6127, a recently discovered young radio pulsar with a large magnetic field. Using pulsar-gated radio imaging data taken at a center frequency of 2496 MHz with the Australia Telescope Compact Array, we have determined a rotation measure for the pulsar of +842 23 rad m 2. These data, combined with archival polarimetry data taken ...
